Frank E. Leatherman - 69

Frank was born in LeRoy, Kansas the second son of Thomas and Bessie. Frank attended the Chanute Kansas High School, lettering in football for four years. He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation and served for four years in California, Vietnam and Texas. He returned home and attended the local community college. Frank married Kathy (McCabe/div. in 2005) while at the community college. He later graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in microbiology and became a histotechnologist until retirement. He mainly worked at Kansas State University Veterinarian College and Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Frank was very active in community work in St. George, Kansas. He was the mayor for two terms, a volunteer fire fighter, trustee of the United Methodist Church, baseball and softball coach, a foster father and an active Jaycee. Frank continued to give back in Illinois. He was a trustee of the first United Methodist Church for many years and volunteered at Hines V.A. Medical Center. Upon retirement Frank enjoyed many activities including attending the Golden Games, participating in air rifle shooting and nine balls, dancing and volunteering at Hines V.A. and Friendship Fridays. Frank belonged to the American Legion since the mid- seventies. He was looking forward to this summer’s Golden Games in Albuquerque. Frank leaves behind his daughters Dawn Leatherman-Kulis and Tara Leatherman-Oberg, as well as six grandchildren; Damon, Dakota, Abby, Daeren, William and Samantha. Frank also leaves behind his sister Kristina Rees and brother James Brent, 3 nieces, and a great niece and nephew.
Inurnment will be private on August 23, 2018 at Lincoln National Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held for all friends and family in honor of Frank on Saturday, August 25th at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow for all. Service and luncheon will be held at the United Methodist Church, 100th and Central in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
